This compact-sized system is the ideal choice for long-term automatic monitoring in behavioral experiments (e.g. drug testing). In conjunction with the available ultrasound microphones, the Avisoft-RECORDER software and the optional sound analysis software Avisoft-SASLab Pro, this system represents a fully integrated solution for various applications *. It is a complete out-of-the-box system with no need to struggle with potential interfacing problems between the various components (bat detector, PCI data acquisition board, cables, software, ...). The UltraSoundGate installation procedure is truly plug-and-play.

Other applications include field recording (e.g. bat echolocation/social calls or grasshopper songs) or passive localization of calling animals.

* Until recently, behavioral studies that required long-term ultrasound monitoring commonly used a simple technique that records the presence of ultrasound only. However, this technique has several limitations : narrow frequency range, no detailed information on the structure of the detected calls, preventing in-depth analysis of potentially various call types, difficulties in separating calls from environmental noise. Listen to a few examples of rat ultrasonic vocalizations recorded with UltraSoundGate.
